THE CALL TO ACTION

Active Voice aims to create a more supportive climate for young women to use their voices to address substantive issues, and in doing so, to develop leadership skills translatable across all professional and civic fields.

Active Voice is a positive, pro-voice campaign, emphasizing examples in which young women have valiantly faced adversity. Here, young women are encouraged to share stories of fighting back against pressure or even just instances in which they faced it, and how they have grown since.

While reforming institutional censorship barriers is an objective of the program, Active Voice highlights all sources of resistance that deter women from full participation in public dialogue, including the online “trolls” who disproportionately harass speakers for doing nothing more than “blogging while female.”

A major aim of Active Voice is to build a sense of community that strengthens the resolve of young women confronting adversity so that they feel less outnumbered and overpowered.
