CHICAS PODEROSAS FIU

In 2016 the Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center Leadership Fellows launched Chicas Poderosas FIU in collaboration with Mariana Santos, SJMC Knight Innovator in Residence and Founder of Chicas Poderosas.   

Chicas Poderosas is a community working to bring Latina women in the Americas to the forefront of digital journalism. Created in 2013, the Chicas Poderosas movement is designed to increase the number of Latina women working directly with newsroom technology. The goal: to create a corps of Latina women digital media leaders and increase the diversity of voices in news. Through events, meetups, and mentoring, Chicas aims to engage more women in developing news applications, producing interactive content and integrating new tools into their newsrooms.
