Elise Gregg is a fourth-year student at Florida International University, earning her BS in Communications with a track in Digital Journalism. She is also part of FIU’s 4+1 program, simultaneously earning her MS in Criminal Justice. Her undergraduate studies also include a minor in Criminal Justice and a certificate in Law, Ethics and Society.

Elise’s work in journalism extends beyond the classroom as editor-in-chief of PantherNOW, FIU’s student media, where she has worked for nearly three years. Beyond her administrative duties, her work has covered various topics with a focus on university administration, student government and FIU courts and crime.

Outside of PantherNOW, Elise has also written for the South Florida Media Network and the Miami Herald. Her articles ranged from general assignment coverage to breaking and real-time news. During her summer internship with the Miami Herald in 2022, she had the opportunity to cover crime, South Florida issues (such as a breakdown of highway construction projects) and a Surfside memorial event.

Elise is currently a fellow at News21, where she is spending the spring and summer of 2023 covering the broad impact of the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision. She will likely be tracking abortion-related prosecutions. Afterward, she hopes to return to FIU to complete her graduate program and, upon graduating work as a courts and crime reporter covering state, national or international news.
