and Urban Design from Florida International University (FIU). Her graduate capstone
project focuses on small-scale regenerative agriculture in the Brazilian Caatinga.
Sophia’s background in art history and volunteer projects in her hometown of Recife,
Brazil inspired her to complete a Master’s in Architecture at FIU in 2021 and join a
two-year fellowship with Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM) Global. As TOM Fellow, Sophia led
a team to host the first TOM: FIU Makeathon in April 2022, bringing 30 people together to
discuss accessibility issues and human-centered design solutions. Sophia returned to
graduate school seeking a deeper understanding of environmental restoration practices
that benefit social and economic needs. Sophia aspires to become an architect and
urban designer that can help preserve our beautiful cities and contribute to projects that
design with compassion.
