Sandra Socarras is a Cuban American raised in South Florida; her life has been defined by the plane ride from Cuba to Miami, driven by her Father’s affirmation that knowledge acquired, education was the one thing no one could take away. Socarras earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Miami. While in Boston, Socarras received a graduate degree in Management from Harvard  University and participated in executive training in Negotiations Theory and Practice from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Socarras pursued her passion for innovation and design development, enrolling in an accelerated Masters of Architecture program at Florida International University, which she will complete in Spring 2022.

In 2021 she was inducted into the Tau Sigma Delta: National Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Board. Socarras’s professional career path has involved Academic Research, Product Development, Program Management, and People Management. Professionally Socarras has been recognized for her intellectual property and leadership contributions, receiving the Excellence in Innovation and Circle of Excellence Awards and seven United States patents in Diagnostic Reagents.

Driven by a sense of civic duty and inspired by the local Ecology that makes South Florida unique. Socarras advocates for communities facing climate change and resolves to propose spaces that promote well-being and a sustainable future. Socarras participates in residential rehabilitation projects with Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade and Habitat for Humanity. Upon graduation, she hopes to contribute with thoughtful designs reflecting an understanding of the people, the climate, the culture, and the historical context of the site and place.
