Janet Rivera-Hernandez is the Senior Vice President of Communications for Mastercard Latin America and the Caribbean. In this role, she is responsible for managing the company’s internal and external communications, overseeing media relations, reputation management, thought leadership, events, employee communications, digital communications, and influencer marketing.

Janet first joined Mastercard in 2002 and has played a key role in implementing transformative communications programs for over two decades. During this time, she has been part of teams that have helped the company achieve significant milestones, including the expansion of the communications function in Latin America, brand identity changes, joint ventures and acquisitions, and sponsorships of major international sporting and entertainment events. She recently led the company’s first press conference in the metaverse. Janet is also a member of various leadership teams, including the Global Communications Executive Leadership Team, the Latin America & Caribbean Senior Management Team, and the Integrated Marketing and Communications Leadership Team for Latin America & the Caribbean.

Before joining Mastercard, Janet held leadership positions at top global PR agencies such as Porter Novelli and Edelman, where she worked on corporate and consumer accounts and international events. She also worked freelance on various projects and in boutique Miami-based public relations firms such as the Conroy-Martinez Group and RBB Public Relations, working with brands such as Minute Maid, Cirque du Soleil, Pharmed, and Grand Prix Americas, to name a few.

Janet’s work has been recognized by various prestigious PR organizations; most recently, she was named Top Women in PR by PR News and Communicator of the Year by Ragan and PR Daily.  In 2022, she was recognized as an “Unstoppable Woman” by Telemundo, and in 2019, she was inducted into the Florida International University School of Journalism and Communications Hall of Fame.

Janet earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing from Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications. She is also an alumnus of the Arthur Page Society’s Future Leaders Program cohort 2016–2017.
