Christine, a first-generation student born in Haiti and raised in South Florida, is a communication major at FIU and is expected to graduate in Fall of 2023. Her love for writing and creative work is why she chose the career path of communication.

She is secretary for a new organization at the Biscayne Bay Campus called the National Association of Black Journalists. This organization has opened many doors and connections during her two years at FIU. She has built confidence as a professional through the organization and has received many opportunities. Christine has received mentoring from Dr. Karla D. Kennedy, who runs the organization. With her guidance, Christine obtained four internships: one with a local radio station and three with FIU, including her current role as a Digital Media Intern at the Kopenhaver Center.

On the days she is not working or in school, she loves to volunteer at church or participate in local beach clean-ups. She enjoys learning new creative ways of expressing herself. Over the years, she has learned how to write poetry, sing, play songs on her ukulele, paint, edit videos, photograph, and much more.

“It is an honor to be empowered by women and to work with the Kopenhaver Center to provide accessible resources that empower other women. During my time here, I inspire to build confidence in students pursuing a career in communication”.
