Kopenhaver Center to Host Webinar and Workshop on Professional Career Development

Students and community invited to learn what it takes to make a great impression on employers

NORTH MIAMI, FL – Florida International University’s (FIU) Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication will continue its Leadership Webinar Series of lectures with a presentation by professional search consultant and sales trainer, Joann Seiling, titled, “Building your Career: The Strategic Interview.” The webinar will go live on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., and will be viewable at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus.

This is the fifth webinar in the Center’s Leadership Webinar Series, which seeks to empower the next generation of women communicators by inviting female leaders in academia and the communications profession to discuss relevant topics of interest within the field. Past webinar speakers include: the executive editor of The Miami Herald, Mindy Marques; Lisa Knutson, the chief administrative officer of The E.W. Scripps Company; the news director for WFOR-TV/CBS4, Liz Roldan; and Dr. Bey-Ling Sha, APR, from San Diego State University’s School of Journalism & Media Studies.

Seiling’s presentation, “Building your Career: The Strategic Interview,” will offer participants an in-depth approach to handling a successful professional interview, and provide insight into the strategy needed to win employers over in both the career and internship level.

I am certain Ms. Seiling’s expertise will instill our students, alumni, and community with the confidence needed to succeed.”

A Professional Development Day Workshop will follow the webinar at the Kopenhaver Center from 2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The workshop invites FIU students and alumni to bring copies of their current résumé/CVs for an individual critiquing session with faculty from the School of Journalism & Mass Communication (SJMC). The event is an opportunity for students to receive immediate, constructive feedback that will help them craft effective résumé/CVs for future employers and internships.

For those who would like to attend the event in person, a viewing party of the webinar proceedings will take place at the Kopenhaver Center, which is located at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus in building Academic II, Room 252 (3000 NE 151 Street, North Miami, FL 33181) at 1 p.m. The Professional Development Day Workshop will proceed in the same location as the webinar viewing party.
