Traits that Make Women Good Leaders

Do you wonder how women can excel in their leadership positions? Find yourself wanting to know their secrets?

In a recent article for Fortune “The Trait That Makes Women Great” Geoff Colvin asserts women’s empathy is one of the traits that allow them to be great leaders.

According to Colvin, empathy allows women to build closer and cooperative relationships with their peers. They have a greater intuition for others’ feelings that men lack. Research has shown that women “value reciprocal relationships more highly than men do.” They are able to communicate problems with a greater sense of understanding.

In another article for Forbes Magazine, writer Sumi Krishnan asserts women who are inspiring leaders embrace their feminine qualities, stay true to themselves, align their personal and business values, share their personal stories and focus on their own unique goals.

Visionary career women like Oprah are able to create their own paths because they are confident about themselves and the people around them. They are personable and passionate about their field and careers.

These qualities also help them deal with challenges in the workplace. In CALIPHER’s Women Leaders Research Study they found women are challenged by stereotypes. Women overcome these obstacles in the workforce by using their leadership skills which includes resiliency, energy and empathy.

According to Emily He, women’s “natural tendencies to be good listeners, provide constant feedback, nurture employees, share knowledge with others and build collaborative relationships make women better equipped to lead and cultivate millennials.”

The Kopenhaver Center team encourages women to continue being effective leaders by adapting these traits to be successful communicators in their field.
