Why I chose the Creative Track program

In the creative field of advertising, getting a Master’s Degree isn’t really needed. Most employers who hire new creatives are looking for experience rather than knowledge. That’s why I chose to do the Global Strategic Communications Creative Track program. The combination of classes at FIU and at Miami Ad School allows me to get experience and learn some theory behind it at the same time.

In May of this year, I graduated from my undergrad. Halfway through my senior year, I started to realize that I wasn’t fully prepared to jump out  into the real world. I received a degree in Advertising, but my feet were barely wet in learning what I needed to know. It’s definitely the industry I want to be in, but I just wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do yet or where I wanted to work. So, I started looking into portfolio schools.

For me, I decided that I would really enjoy teaching someday and that’s why I chose the master’s program versus the regular portfolio school. Although the other MAS students get the chance to study all over the world and the ability to work on more projects, I feel that the master’s program was the perfect fit for me.

I made the thousand mile trek from the midwest to Miami and I have enjoyed every minute of it so far. I’ve only been here a couple of months, but I’ve had the chance to meet so many new people, work on multiple different campaign projects, and learned new things. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the program has to teach me.

So, if you’re trying to decide which program to apply for – consider what is best for you. Don’t pick the Master’s because your parents want you to, pick it because you want to. I promise, the hard work and money is definitely worth it.
