Barnes and Noble Revamp

Brane’s & Noble is a well-known brand that is, unfortunately, slowly declining. The B&N brick-and-mortar stores is what makes the brand unique, as people still love the physical experience of being in a bookstore. However, the thing that sets Barnes and Noble apart from competitors like Amazon and Apple is what is also hindering the brand due to a lackluster customer in-store experience.

Interior Design

Our first implementation in the rebranding process is a store redesign. We learned that the less favorable feeling about the stores decor, technology and overall atmosphere is shared amongst customers and staff. We wanted update the store’s design and decor to make the atmosphere inviting and modern. Everything from the floors to the seating needs a facelift. By keeping the color palette in earth tones and infusing more natural elements like wooden floors and decorations in the store we want to make the store experience unique for the customer so they will want to come back over and over again.

Kindle In-Store Search

Since the Nook does not have as high sales as competing tablets with a lack of interest in the tablet (we noticed that no one interacts with the Nook station inside the store) we came up with a new way for customers to experience the Nook in a new way. By replace the outdated and unattractive in-store computers used for book searches with the Nook customers are able to explore and interact with the tablet when they normally would not, increasing the chances to interest in the Nook and potential sales. This new feature also gives B&N stores a more modern and cleaner look, adding to the attractiveness of the atmosphere.

Sleep Pods

Embracing the relationship between colleges and B&N, we wanted to encourage students to visit the bookstore more often. When we linked a common problem amongst college students, being exhausted during the day with no where to rest, with B&N we realized that sleep pods would be a great way to attract more students to the stores. The sleep pods, with their futuristic design, would surely attract plenty of sleepy students through the doors.

Book Trucks

Since not everyone is always able to get to the bookstore, we decided to bring the bookstore to them. A mobile B&N truck that sells books and coffee takes the atmosphere and experience of the brick and mortar store and delivers it to customers.

Periscope Readings

Because author visits and readings are such an integral part of the B&N attraction of customer to physical locations we wanted to extend this experience. By live-sreaming book readings through Periscope users who cannot attend the readings physically can still participate. To get them into the physical bookstore later, a discount will be provided for those who watched the stream.
