Miriam Mirolla is Professor, Chair in Theory of Perception and Gestalt and Chair in Psychology of Art, at Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and at Quasar Institute for Advanced Design in Rome. She is the Founder and Director of LAP Laboratory of Art Psychology. Miriam Mirolla received her diploma in Literature and Philosophy from La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, in 1991. Since 1986 she was an artist/researcher at Centro Studi Sperimentali Jartrakor in Rome, within the Eventualist Theory; in 1998 she was nominated a Member of Scientific Committee in Rivista di Psicologia dell’Arte. From 1995 to 2001 she was a professor with the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, Venice, Carrara, Frosinone and University of Perugia. Since 2002 she has been a professor with the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where she holds a Chair in Theory of Perception and Gestalt and, since 2009, a Chair in Psychology of Art. In 2009 she founded LAP Laboratory of Art Psychology. Scientific Chairman of the I Congress of Art Psychology at Musei Capitolini (2001) and at MACRO Museum in Rome (2019). Her general interests span the areas of contemporary art, avant-garde theories, psychology of art, subliminal perception, gender studies, arts and humanities – subjects on which she has published numerous journal papers, conference papers, books and monographs, as well as she has curated numerous collective and solo shows. Current research focuses on strategies of expressive abstinency, eye tracking movements, interaction theories and stochastic painting.
