5 Companies That You Should Know, Copywriters!

Copywriters Today

Oh copywriters; we can be the rockstars of a campaign or just a tool to fill letters.

We treasure the remainings of the Golden Era of advertising, portrayed by fictional characters such as Don Draper from MadMen. Ah, the time when the copywriter job was the stepping stone to becoming a Creative Director. Once a Director, next comes commanding the fun in the department while enjoying the perks of a partnership in the company. This was just a matter of time, no contacts or awards like it is nowadays.

Branches to Work In

Advertising agencies will still be in the radar of a copywriter. There will always be a spot for someone who can come up with ideas for brands to raise sales, awareness or simply to reassert a position in a market.

“I have always believed that writing advertisements is the second most profitable form of writing. The first, of course, is ransom notes…” –  Philip Dusenberry

But now, the rules of the game have, if not changed, at least bent. A writer that can create concepts to solve problems for the society is more valuable than the one who can come up with lines to appeal to emotions.

In a certain way, the general knowledge requirements that advertising has imposed to us during the last decades is the cause of why, now, a good copywriter has to know a little bit of everything. We became the handymen of the industry, the internists of the agencies. We don’t have all the answers, but most of the time we know at least a few of them, or at least how to get them.

This is why advertising agencies are no longer the only place a copywriter is more than well received, but praised and needed. Let’s take a look at some of them:

Google

The giant of technology is always searching for ideas to improve the world: Big data collection, mapping the world from both space and land, driverless cars, artificial intelligence, the ceased use of physical money, connecting the whole world with free WiFi, among other ideas.

Every idea, any great concept, and any line that can lead these ideas to become bigger than they are, is what the Mountain View company is looking for when they hire in their 70 offices throughout the world.

Apple

The Cupertino giant is like the player that was always the second best, and when the big player fell down, didn’t take the chance to get the crown.

We’re talking about when Google dethroned Microsoft while Apple kept looking.

Even so, the company is, in a certain way, something greater than their competitors when we look at pop culture and the trends. The state of the art design in their hardware and software is highly appreciated by the masses. Just think about the buzz the pre-order and launch of the iPhone generates for each generation of the device.

Embedding innovation into your life is the name of the game from Apple, and they are looking for people to help them achieve that.

Mckinsey and Company

I’d define Mckinsey as an agency on steroids. They are a company with only one thing in mind, and that is to solve problems.

That’s why they connect perfectly with the last definition of the copywriter: the problem solver of life.

Startups

Everyday we see more and more startup companies being successfully acquired by the big players of the world. And guess what: the main reason to be part of a startup is (drumroll…) to fill a need in the market, to solve a problem, to do something that no one has done before. Again, innovation is based on good changes, good changes are based on knowledge; knowledge that you already have.

Accelerators

These companies are like the support wheels for a startup.  Working for them is like you are working on several startups at once. Trust me, the people you meet in each of them will surprise you on many different levels. Again, innovation is the name of the game here.
