FIU THEATRE FACILITIES
The Department of Theatre maintains access to four production facilities through the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts (CARTA). These facilities house FIU Theatre’s costume shop, scene shop, dressing rooms, design lab, production spaces, dance studio, and rehearsal space. These facilities are located in The Wertheim, Deuxieme Maison (DM) and Viertes Haus (VH) buildings.

Theatre Mainstage & Black Box Theatre at The Wertheim
The Wertheim opened in 1996, and houses the FIU Department of Theatre and FIU Wertheim School of Music. The Wertheim is one of Miami’s premiere collegiate theatrical and concert venues. It is located on FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus (MMC).Theatre majors present four productions per season at the Theatre Mainstage, which is a 200-seat venue with a fly system, and the Black Box Theatre – a flexible seating space with professional grade lighting and sound systems. The Wertheim also houses the FIU Theatre costume shop, scene shop, dressing rooms, design lab, and rehearsal space.

Main Stage seating
The Student Lab Studio is inside FIU’s Deuxième Maison Building, completed in 1973. Also known as the DM Building, it is adjacent to Primera Casa (PC) and the Green Library. Deuxième Maison French for “second house,” and like the name suggests it was the second in a series of learning facilities on the Modesto Maidique Campus. The first building was Primera Casa (first house in Spanish), the third was Owa Ehan (third house in Swahili), and the fourth was Viertes Haus (fourth house in German) – which is home to FIU Theatre’s Dance Studio. The large cube in front of Deuxième Maison is said to give good luck in exams and tests and thus is spun by hundreds of students every semester. During final exams, a line forms around the cube with people waiting to be able to spin the cube for good luck on their exams.

The Dance Studio is located in Viertes Haus, referred to as VH by students and faculty. The Dance Studio – VH 100 is used for Dance, Theatre Movement and Voice classes, as well as FIU’s Department of Music Opera Workshop.Viertes Haus – opened in 1975 – is German for “fourth house,” and like the name suggests it was the fourth in a series of learning facilities on the Modesto Maidique Campus. Dance Studio – VH 100
The Royal@FIU Production Studio is a 130,000 square foot, state-of-the-art rehearsal and production studio located on FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus. The production studio features three-story studios, a 300-seat theater, 20,000-square-foot costume-making facility, 10 rehearsal studios, a recording room and video editing facilities.
FIU Theatre students participate in frequent performance and design masterclasses at the facility featuring top creative talent from RCCL.
