Susan Sprunt is founder of Environmental Consulting Systems, Inc., based in Monroe County, Florida providing ecological expertise and services for over thirty years. She has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Ornamental Horticulture from the University of Florida, a Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA) from Florida International University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Botany from Miami University in Ohio. She has taught courses in plant identification, biology, and plant taxonomy, as well as planting seminars and lectures. Her research has focused on south Florida native plants, restoration planting, natural areas planning, and plant systematics. Having been raised in Monroe County she has a unique perspective on life in southern Florida and the natural systems of our subtropical environment. As a consultant she provides ecological reports, mitigation plans, habitat delineations, and restoration plans for both the public and private sectors. Susan has also worked as an employee for Islamorada - Village of Islands, where she prepared and implemented amendments to the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Regulations, and provided oversight to revision of the stormwater technical manual. She developed and implemented the Canal Restoration Plan for Islamorada and served on the NOAA Subcommittee on Canal Restoration for 5 years. Her professional and graduate work have taken her to Broward, Dade, and Monroe Counties as well as The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, and a visiting research student in London.
