Dedicated To Your Success

FIU Has a number of resources that can help you succeed. FIU provides services to help students every step of the way – from academic advising and tutoring, to career planning and college life coaching. Please take advantage of these resources – they are here for you!

Get Academic Advising

You should see your advisor at least once a semester. They are your best source of information when making academic decisions. Advisors are especially busy when the class enrollment period begins, so make an appointment early in the semester. An advisor can help you choose classes, register and plan for graduation. Connect with an academic advisor by clicking here.

All First-Time-In-College (FTIC) students are able to receive additional guidance to help you transition to college. Connect with our FTIC Coach, Professor Federico Bonacossa, at fbonacos@fiu.edu.

Get Tutoring

Our tutors are students from the School of Music who have succeeded in their courses and expressed interest in helping other students learn. They are recruited by faculty and are able to provide support in the areas of music theory and music history.

Contact the Center for Academic Success (CfAS)

The Center for Academic Success (CfAS), provides in-person and online tutoring and extra credit workshops for FIU students. Tutoring subjects offered include: biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry and more. Extra credit workshops are limited to biology and chemistry classes. Workshops include memory and learning, grammar, AP, MLA overview and study skills.

The center also provides more in-depth avenues for learning like the Academic Success Plans, a program designed for students who want to improve their academic performance. This is done through time management workshops, diagnostic sessions, subject specific tutoring programs and more.

Talk to a Life Coach

If academic guidance isn’t what you need, try talking with a College Life Coach for everything else. The College Life Coaching Program is focused exclusively on helping students achieve success at FIU and after graduation through a variety of services.

The coaching program is dedicated to helping students figure out their goals and talk through their ideas for planning and strategies for success. If you are interested in speaking with a coach, set up an appointment by visiting coaching.fiu.edu and/or calling 305-348-8137.

Make an Appointment with CAPS

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers programs and services with licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, and trainees with expertise dealing with student concerns and development. Students who are currently registered at Florida International University are eligible to utilize these services and participate in the programs. The services offered by CAPS are funded by the student health fee and therefore free to currently enrolled students. To learn more, click here.
