COURSE SEQUENCE

Please note that semesters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, do not denote freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years, they refer to how the courses should be taken. In other words, you need to take the courses in semesters 1 and 2 before you can take the courses in semester 3; semesters 1, 2 and 3 before you can take the courses in semester 4, etc.

Courses in semesters 1 and 2 can be switched around, but they have to be completed before you can take the courses in semester 3.

We encourage students who started FIU as freshmen to complete the majority of their UCC (36 credits) and general elective courses (24 credits) before starting the major courses.

The major specific courses follow a sequence that needs to be adhered to in order to graduate on time. Any deviation from the course sequence may result in a delay of your graduation. Please click on the links to view the major course sequence.

JOURNALISM (60 credits)

Please meet with your advisor at least once a semester so that you can plan your schedule together. It is very important to communicate with your advisor as we are continuously working on improving the program to meet industry standards.
